Signs Your Air Conditioners Needs Attention

May 22nd, 2017

Like your car, your air conditioner requires maintenance to perform at its best.   Proactive maintenance also helps you catch small issues while they’re easily fixed and before they become costly. Here are 6 signs that your AC needs attention:

  1. No cool air. If the air coming out of your vents is not as cool as it used to be, or worse, it’s not cool at all, it’s time to have a professional take a look
  2. Weak air flow. If you notice that air flow is weak or non-existent, there may be an issue with your ductwork or debris in the vents restricting airflow.
  3. Moisture where it shouldn’t be. If you notice moisture building up around your air conditioner, it is not functioning properly. A HVAC professional can determine whether you have a refrigerant leak or another issue with your air conditioner.
  4. Strange sounds. Clanking, banging, squealing are signs that you system needs to be serviced. It could be that a belt slipped out of place or that there is a problem with the motor.
  5. Weird smells. A musty odor when your AC kicks on could be caused by debris in your unit or ducts or an issue with the wire insulation.
  6. Energy bill is higher than usual. If your energy costs are higher than normal, it may be caused by an inefficiency in the operating of your air conditioner and should be looked at by a professional.
